High Carbon Spring Tempering Steel Wire
High carbon steel is used to make spring tempered carbon steel wire. Commonly used grades of spring steel wire do not have a specific chemical name. They are instead specified and manufactured according to performance criteria specific to their primary end use, which is the manufacture of coil springs. These performance standards allow a range of carbon content, but there are other factors, such as tensile strength and bending/winding tests must be met within the specified range.

High Carbon Spring Tempering Steel Wire Description

Mainly Divided Into Three Categories:

Hard pull spring steel wire: Also known as HDMB spring wire, it is a cost-effective choice for many general-purpose applications. The carbon content ranges from 0.45 to 0.85 percent. Since it is usually not heat-treated after drawing, it has high strength and medium toughness. It is available in a variety of diameters and is manufactured in accordance with ASTM A227 (uncoated finish) and ASTM A764 (galvanized finish).

Oil tempered spring steel wire: Also known as OTMB spring steel wire, it is an excellent general-purpose spring steel wire with improved performance compared to hard drawing. The carbon content ranges from 0.55 to 0.85 percent. After drawing, the oil-tempered wire rod is subjected to heat treatment and controlled cooling in an oil bath to increase its toughness while maintaining high tensile strength. This makes it particularly suitable for applications requiring high impact resistance or a large number of deflection cycles. Oil tempered spring steel wire is available in a variety of diameters and is manufactured in accordance with ASTM A229. This grade does not provide a galvanized finish.

Music spring high quality steel wire: Also known as music wire or piano wire, it is a very high quality steel wire suitable for demanding applications. The carbon content ranges from 0.70 to 1.00 percent. The music wire is heat treated after drawing to relieve stress and toughen the wire while maintaining high tensile strength. The strings are typically 0.250 inches or less in diameter and are manufactured in accordance with ASTM A228. It has a variety of surface treatments to choose from, such as bright, phosphate, tin and zinc.

Scope of Application

High Carbon Spring Tempering Steel Wire known for high strength and hardness, often used in manufacturing high-strength wires for industrial purposes, springs, and specialty applications like piano wires.

FAQ

Q1: What types of steel products does your company primarily manufacture and supply?
A: We are a direct manufacturer specializing in carbon steel, hot-dip galvanized steel, PPGI (pre-painted galvanized iron), and stainless steel (grades 201, 304, and 316) in the form of sheets, coils, pipes, and various structural profiles, along with complementary steel structural components. Our products serve a wide range of industries, including infrastructure, photovoltaics, machinery manufacturing, chemicals, and new energy.

Q2: Do you support customization regarding material grades, thicknesses, and dimensions?
A: Customization is available across our entire product range. For carbon steel, galvanized steel, and stainless steel, we can adjust thickness, width, and cut-to-length dimensions according to GB, ASTM, or EN standards. Various profiles can be cut and bent based on customer drawings, and special steel grades can be produced through customized scheduling.

Q3: What is the difference between galvanized steel and color-coated (PPGI) steel, and how should I choose for my project?
A: Hot-dip galvanized steel features a pure zinc anti-rust layer; it is cost-effective and impact-resistant, making it ideal for mounting brackets, guardrails, and load-bearing factory structures (and it can be painted over). PPGI color-coated steel uses a galvanized base, offering both rust protection and aesthetic appeal with a wide range of colors; it is commonly used for factory roofing, wall cladding, and energy storage equipment casings. We recommend thicker galvanized coatings for projects in rainy coastal areas, color-coated sheets for outdoor projects requiring visual appeal, and weather-resistant fluorocarbon (PVDF) coatings for high-temperature desert environments.

Q4: Does the factory keep stock on hand, and what is the minimum order quantity (MOQ)?
A: We operate our own standardized, zoned warehouse with a capacity of over 10,000 tons, maintaining ample stock of carbon steel, galvanized steel, and stainless steel. The MOQ for standard specifications is 1 ton, though we also accept sample orders as small as a few dozen kilograms. There is no upper limit for large-scale projects, and we support mixed-load shipments combining different steel products in a single container.

Q5: What are the lead times for stock items versus customized products?
A: Standard stock items take 3–7 days for processing, packaging, and container loading. Simple cutting and bending orders take 7–10 days. Orders requiring mold creation or special steel customization take 15–30 days; exact delivery dates are confirmed based on the customer's specific order specifications.
